Rachel Hucul, VP of Early Childhood Education & Preschool Director

Ms. Rachel has been with the preschool since its creation. After graduating from Saginaw Valley State University with a B.A. Elementary Education and an endorsement in Early Childhood Education, she taught for 5  years in Midland before joining our team. Ms. Rachel is married to her high school sweetheart and has 2 children, Harper and Easton. She has over 10 years of teaching experience in preschool, kindergarten and first grade. She is trained in Conscious Discipline. Her goal is to create an environment where every student can enjoy a safe, enriching and challenging learning experience by using the natural resources around us. She runs in sun, rain or show! Ms. Rachel says that she has the best job in the world!

Jayne Schutter, Chief Administrator

Ms. Jayne joined the team in 2017. She was born and raised in Hamilton and still resides in the area with her husband, John, daughter, Julia and son, Johnny. Ms. Jayne loves good coffee, spending time outside with her family, enjoying beach days and kayaking. She is excited to serve families in the Little Hawks Office.

Barb Ferguson, Preschool Administrator

Ms. Barb is a retired teacher and administrator. She lives with her husband, Bud, in Laketown Twp. She has loved being a part of the creation of Little Hawks and provides “behind the scenes” administrative support.

Ruth Cronk, Parent Engagement Coordinator

Ms. Ruth retired from teaching for Zeeland Public Schools for 32 years. She has been on the ODC staff since 2002. Ms. Ruth was born and raised in Holland. She is an avid walker who loves interacting with little children in their natural world. Her goal is to afford children opportunities to create their own sense of curiosity and wonder as they explore their natural world.

Amanda Veldheer, Teacher

Ms. Amanda loves all things nature and outdoors, and has enjoyed working at ODC! She went to school for Early Childhood Education, and has worked with young children for years. She is passionate about sharing her love of nature with the kids she teaches!

Kristin DeJarnatt, Teacher

Ms. Kristin graduated from Hope College with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in Environmental Science. She taught environmental education to 4th – 12th graders for 5 years and preschool for 3 year old’s for 3 years. She enjoys gardening, kayaking, camping and spending time with her husband and daughter. Ms. Kristin encourages students to be curious and creative in the outdoors and also to care for the environment.

Nicole Dykstra, Teacher

Ms. Nicole is originally from the east side of the state, moving to Holland after graduating from Grand Valley State University. Both of her children are Little Hawks graduates and have mastered the fine art of puddle jumping! Ms. Nicole loves the outdoors, finding the fun in every season. She is excited to be a part of the Little Hawks team and the many awaiting adventures and memories!

Darcy Logan, Teacher

Ms. Darcy is married to her high school sweetheart, Tim, and has 5 children. Ms. Darcy has 20 years of experience teaching children from preschool to 6th grade. She owns her own music education program, Tunes4Tykes, and is a very active leader in the Boy Scouts of America. Ms. Darcy was born and raised in Holland.

Brittany Peters, Teacher

Ms.Brittany has been working in childcare learning centers for 8 years. She has an Associate degree in Child Development. She is also married with a one year old daughter. She lives in Hamilton and enjoy water sports, golf, reading, Bible studies and spending time with family. She loves to explore nature alongside the little ones.

Kristi Rosema, Teacher

Ms. Kristi has a background in Environmental Education and has spent much of the past 20 years home educating her two, now grown, children. She and her husband, Dale, live in Holland. Ms. Kristi loves the sense of wonder children have for the world around them and she is looking forward to exploring and discovering with the Little Hawks students.

Vicki Sturtevant, Teacher

Ms. Vicki was married to her husband, Tom, in May 2015. She graduated with a B.A.A. in Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services with a concentration in Outdoor and Environmental Education from Central Michigan University. She has 10 years of teaching experience in Environmental Education, preschool through 12th grade. Ms. Vicki has taught nature-based preschool for 4 years. Her goal is to create hands-on experiences that connect children to the natural world around them. She loves hiking, biking and cross-country skiing.

Elizabeth Bosscher, Teacher

Ms. Elizabeth graduated from Cornerstone University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development. Ms. Elizabeth loves teaching young children about the world around them. In her free time she enjoys hiking, kayaking and yoga. Ms. Elizabeth was born and raised in Holland.

Jenna Zamzow, Teacher

Ms. Jenna attended UW-Madison to earn B.S. degrees in Psychology and Human Development.  She recently graduated with her Master’s in Environmental Education from the University of Minnesota – Duluth, where she studied nature preschools as her thesis project.  She loves spending time outside, especially hiking, kayaking, and snowshoeing.  Jenna is excited to continue sparking natural wonder and curiosity in children at Little Hawks!

Kelsey Zuiderveen, Teacher

Ms. Kelsey graduated from Calvin College with a B.A. in Elementary Education, with an endorsement in Language Arts and English as a Second Language. She has five years of naturalist experience, teaching environmental education to preschool through 12th grade. In her spare time Kelsey’s enjoys hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking with her husband. She is also an active musician; her main instrument is the oboe. Ms. Kelsey loves discovering nature’s magic with her students!

Taylor Van Naarden, Teacher

Ms. Taylor went to University of Iowa and received a degree in Geography and Sustainability Sciences with an emphasis on Environmental Studies. She loves any activity in the outdoors and will try anything at least once but her favorites are back country camping and yard games. She believes nature is so important and loves being part of the conservation process so that others can enjoy it and want to conserve it too! Ms. Taylor has been with the Outdoor Discovery Center for over a year and is excited to join the preschool team this year. Welcome to the team Taylor!
