The number one element that makes our Little Hawks Discovery Preschool such an amazing place for kids to play and learn is our phenomenal staff.
Rachel is the Preschool Director and Lead Teacher at Little Hawks and has been with the preschool since its creation and is the lead teacher for the Gray Squirrels and Blue Jays sessions. After graduating from Saginaw Valley State University with a B.A. in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Early Childhood Education, she taught for six years in Midland before join our team. Her goal is to create an environment where every student can enjoy an safe, enriching, and challenging learning experience by using the natural resources around us
Carlie joined the Little Hawks during its first year. She graduated from Grand Rapids Community College and holds an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development. Carlie is an assistant teacher for all Little Hawks sessions. Her favorite part about the Little Hawks program is teaching the students, while allowing them to grow, explore, and play naturally.
Ruth is the Early Childhood Coordinator at the Outdoor Discovery Center Macatawa Greenway (ODCMG) and will be leading the Gray Squirrels and Blue Jays at the start of the 2016/17 year, while Ms. Rachel is on child care leave. After retiring from 32 years of teaching for Zeeland Public Schools she found her niche teaching outdoor education classes at the Outdoor Discovery Center. Her goal is to afford children opportunities to create their own sense of curiosity and wonder as they explore their nature world.
Darcy is joining the Little Hawks team this year, assisting with the Green Frogs, Gray Squirrels and Chickadees. Ms. Darcy has 20 years of experience teaching children from preschool to 6th grade. She owns her own music education program, Tunes4Tykes, and is a very active leader in the Boy Scouts of America. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Tim, and has five children.
Kelsey graduated from Calvin College and has two years of experience teaching environmental education to preschoolers through 12th grade. She is an active musician; her main instrument is the oboe. Ms. Kelsey’s hobbies are hiking, backpacking and biking. She is joining the Little Hawks team this year and will be an assistant teacher in the Blue Jays session.
Vicki joined the Little Hawks team in 2015 and teaches in the 3-year-old sessions (Green Frogs and Chickadees). She graduated with a B.A.A. in Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services with a concentration in Outdoor and Environmental Education from Central Michigan University and has taught Environmental Education for the last eleven years to children aged 4 through 15. She recently completed training for her Child Development Associate Credential. Her goal is to create hands-on experiences that connect children to the natural world around them.
Barb is a retired teacher, principal and curriculum director and serves as the preschool administrator for Little Hawks. She has loved being a part of the creation of Little Hawks and will be happy to try to help answer any questions about enrollment, tuition, paperwork, etc.
